How It Works
The calculator uses standard cake serving charts based on slice dimensions. Party slices(1"x2") are thinner and serve more people. Dessert slices(1.5"x2") are generous and serve fewer.
It finds the best tier combination that serves at least your guest count, keeping typical tier size differences (each tier 2" smaller than the one below).
Cake Sizes by Servings
| Tier Size | Party Slices (1"x2") | Dessert Slices (1.5"x2") |
|---|---|---|
| 6" round | 12 | 8 |
| 8" round | 24 | 16 |
| 10" round | 38 | 25 |
| 12" round | 56 | 36 |
| 14" round | 78 | 50 |
| 16" round | 100 | 66 |

FAQ
What size cake for 150 guests?
For 150 guests with party slices, a 3-tier cake (8" + 12" + 16") provides about 180 servings. For dessert slices, you may need a 4-tier or supplement with a sheet cake.
Should I get a smaller display cake and a sheet cake?
This is a great way to save money. A beautiful 2-tier display cake for cutting, plus sheet cakes in the kitchen for serving, can save $200-$500. Guests never notice the difference.
How much does a wedding cake cost?
Average wedding cake cost is $3-$8 per slice from a professional bakery. A 150-person cake typically costs $450-$1,200 depending on design complexity, fondant vs buttercream, and your location.
Party slice vs dessert slice — which should I choose?
Choose party slices if cake is one of several desserts (dessert table, cookies, etc). Choose dessert slices if cake is the only dessert — guests will want a full portion.
