How It Works

The calculator uses industry-standard tipping guidelines from wedding planning associations. Some vendors are tipped as a percentage of their fee, while others receive flat-rate tips.

  1. Select the overall service level you received.
  2. Enter each vendor's fee (for percentage-based tips).
  3. Review suggested tip ranges and the total tip budget.

Tipping Etiquette Tips

  • Check contracts first: Many caterers include a service charge or gratuity. Do not double-tip.
  • Prepare cash envelopes: Label each envelope with the vendor name and have them ready the morning of.
  • Assign a tip distributor: Give all envelopes to your best man, maid of honor, or planner to hand out.
  • Tip on the day: Most tips are given at the end of the event, except delivery drivers (tip on arrival).
  • When in doubt, tip: Even $20 shows appreciation and is never inappropriate.

FAQ

How much should I budget for wedding tips total?

A typical wedding tip budget is $500-$1,500 depending on your vendor lineup. Plan for about 3-5% of your total wedding budgetto cover all tips.

Do I tip the venue coordinator?

If the venue provides a coordinator as part of the package, tipping is optional but appreciated — $50-$100 is appropriate. If you hired an independent planner, a heartfelt gift is better than cash.

Should I tip if I am unhappy with the service?

You are not obligated to tip for poor service. However, for minor issues, consider reducing the tip rather than eliminating it entirely. Most wedding vendors rely on tips as part of their income.
